About THE JAZZ RENDEZVOUS website

The JAZZ RENDEZVOUS web site has grown out of the Jazz News Rendezvous Weekly Newsletter which has been distributed since 1999 via the yahoo group's website. This new web site takes over from the weekly newsletter.

We will be posting stories and information about South African Jazz as well as interesting items from the wide world of jazz. To start with we will focus on Jazz from the Western Cape where those involved with the website are based. We will feature CD and DVD reviews as well as the odd book review. We'll also be posting gig details from around the country and highlighting some of the well-known clubs of S.A. Other features will include a featured Artist of the Week, a look at the world wide Jazz Charts, Album of the Week, Weekly Musicians Birthdays, Jazz News from South Africa and Around the World, Songwriter of the Week and many more interesting articles.

With the encouragement of friends, members of the news group such as Rashid Lombard, CEO of the Cape town International Jazz Festival, Gwen Ansel, Jazz Journalist Teacher and Author, the jazz Journalist Association, Jim West Record Company owner, Dorothea Photinidis owner of Jassics, a successful Southern African independent Jazz CD Distributor to name but a few. Taking wise counsel from many people involved in the jazz music and education industry has led to the decision to design and publish a jazz website that covers the wide spectrum of the Southern African jazz scene in its entirety, something which has not yet been done. Many SA music sites deal with popular music and show little regard for jazz as an important genre in the music business today.

JAZZ RENDEZVOUS will highlight the jazz fraternity in Southern Africa and become the most important reference point covering the Southern African Jazz scene. We hope to give an insight into the happenings of any art form that has a strong bond with jazz. We will make it easy to spread information that show case as many South African jazz musicians as is possible. Whilst the Jazz Rendezvous website will also focus on information and reviews from a wide variety of international sources however we will not lose sight of the main focus which is Southern African jazz.
